About Small Data Garden
Small Data Garden is a Finnish IoT company with over ten years of experience building connected sensing solutions. Based in the Nordics, they design and manufacture their own devices, including the IOTSU® indoor air quality sensor solutions and the IOTSU® IMPACT N12, a smart bridge for connecting physical systems to the cloud.
Their solutions serve real estate, utilities, schools, and industrial environments. To date, they have shipped more than 70,000 devices to customers across Finland and Sweden, with expansion into Germany and Austria underway.
Small Data Garden sells through distributors and direct to customers. Their devices are maintenance-free, long-lasting, and built for easy installation. No gateways. No wires. No complexity.
The challenge
Growing a hardware business across borders is straightforward until connectivity becomes the bottleneck.
Small Data Garden's devices run on NB-IoT and LTE-M. This works well in Finland and in a limited market area. Expanding beyond those boundaries introduced a different problem. Their customers needed connectivity to work from day one, in any country, without having to navigate carrier contracts or SIM logistics themselves.
Traditional telecom operators were not built for this in new areas. Conversations can take too long. Pricing is hard to explain to an end customer. Support assumes a level of telecom expertise most buyers of IoT hardware might do not have.
