About Pascal Technologies

Pascal Technologies is a Norwegian maritime technology company based in Oslo. They develop performance technology for cleaner and more efficient vessels, with a mission to disrupt how maritime transportation works and push the industry toward a cleaner future.

Their flagship innovation, AirHull, reduces hydrodynamic resistance by creating an air cushion beneath the hull. This technology makes planing boats up to 50% more energy efficient, cutting fuel consumption and reducing environmental impact. Pascal works with boat builders across Europe, from electric water taxis in Rotterdam to personnel transport vessels in Norway.

The company also delivers complete powertrain systems for electric and hybrid vessels, along with Empirica, their performance software platform that validates and optimizes vessel operations using data analytics.

The challenge

As Pascal Technologies expanded their AirHull and powertrain deliveries, they needed IoT connectivity that could keep pace with their growth. Each vessel requires continuous data transmission for operational analysis, performance optimization, and over-the-air software updates. Last year alone, Pascal shipped multiple updates to their boats that resulted in several percentage points of increased range.

Maritime operations present unique connectivity challenges. Vessels move between coastal waters, ports, and open sea. They cross national boundaries and operate in areas where network coverage varies. Pascal needed a connectivity partner who understood these requirements and could provide:

  • Global coverage without managing multiple carrier relationships

  • Flexible data plans that scale with their growing fleet

  • Simple management tools for their technical team

  • Predictable costs without surprise overage fees

The solution

Pascal Technologies chose IXT for their global IoT connectivity needs. After an initial discussion about their requirements, IXT provided test SIMs for evaluation. Within days, Pascal confirmed the SIMs were working and ready for deployment on upcoming vessels.

The deployment includes IXT Global SIMs with a 5GB shared data pool, providing access to 600+ mobile networks across 190+ countries. This multi-network coverage ensures Pascal vessels stay connected regardless of location.

Through the IXT CMP (Connectivity Management Platform), the Pascal team has real-time visibility into data usage, network status, and connectivity performance for every SIM. They can add, modify, or suspend SIMs in a few clicks, with full audit trails and network event logging.

Key features of the IXT solution:

  • Global Data Pool: All SIMs share one data pool for predictable costs and flexible usage across the fleet

  • Real-time insights: Near real-time usage counters and connectivity status in the CMP dashboard

  • No contract lock-in: Flexible terms that scale with deployment needs

  • Responsive support: Quick issue resolution and technical guidance from the IXT team

"We needed connectivity that works anywhere our vessels operate. IXT gave us global coverage with one SIM and one data pool. The simplicity lets us focus on building better boats, not managing telecom contracts." - Jesper Hosen, Head of Software, Pascal Technologies

The results

Pascal Technologies moved from initial test to full production deployment in under four weeks. The transition was smooth, with their technical team gaining access to the CMP portal and managing their SIM fleet independently.

With IXT handling connectivity, Pascal can focus on what they do best: developing technology that makes maritime transportation cleaner and more efficient. As their fleet grows, they can scale their SIM deployments without renegotiating contracts or managing multiple carrier relationships.

The partnership also positions Pascal for future growth. As they deploy more vessels with AirHull technology, powertrain technology and expand their Empirica software platform, they have a connectivity foundation that scales globally.

About the author

IXT writes about IoT connectivity because we build it. We’re a Full-MVNO with our own core network and a CMP we designed in-house, so we see what works at scale and what doesn’t. Our team has decades of experience in M2M/IoT, from network engineering to enterprise rollouts, so the guidance we share is practical, vendor-agnostic and field-tested. Connect, secure and manage devices with confidence using our IoT Connectivity.
