G-Guard x IXT: Making fall detection smarter and safer
Berlin based PIKK-Systems builds robust industrial-grade sensing solutions. One of their key products is a next-generation fall-detection, the G-Guard. A device designed to detect a person falling in a room, alerting the pre-set people or institutions instantly.
Story at a glance:
In Europe, Berlin-based PIKK-systems is launching a new generation of their G-Guard, a camera-free fall-detection sensor that connects only when it needs to alert. With IXT Global IoT SIM alerts reach carers fast and reliably.

Smart design with minimal connectivity
Anyone with an elderly parent or friend who lives alone know the fear that they will fall, hurt themselves and not being able to notify anyone. Traditional systems to set off an alarm when falling, requires the person to have a button either hanging around their neck or attached to their wrist. Not a fool proof system. Forgetting to bring it or put it on, or the person loosing consciousness, could delay help and cause more distress.
PIKK-Systems has developed a sensor that is installed in every room of the apartment or house the person lives in. The G-Guard. Working 100% passively the sensors does not emit any energy but simply analyses the infrared radiation from the human body. It can detect if the person in the room falls. No camera. No radar. This triggers an instant sequence of alerting the pre-set e-mails, sms or calling.
“Unlike many connected devices, ours isn’t always online”, says Lothar Feige, founder of PIKK-Systems.
“The sensor works locally and monitors the room continuously, but only wakes up the modem when it needs to. That’s when the alert is triggered and connectivity kicks in, to send an email, SMS or start a call with its integrated hands-free audio equipment. The rest of the time, it stays offline, which helps keep it secure and power-efficient.”
Preparing for launch
The new generation of the G-Guard is planned for release late 2025 and will ship with mobile connectivity for secure connection when it matters. PIKK-Systems has selected IXT’s global IoT SIM for the launch of this new generation.
“We’ve selected IXT’s SIM for the new generation. This SIM and their offering gives us the flexibility we need for distribution and scaling. Integration is already underway, and we are looking forward to having it in place ahead of launch.”
Security by design
Although the G-Guard only connects briefly when needed, and doesn’t accept incoming traffic, security remains a priority. The architecture itself reduces risk, and PIKK is exploring options with IXT to enhance that further during integration. “Connectivity is rare, but critical,” says Feige. “So if there’s anything we can do to make that part more secure without adding complexity, we’re open to it.”
The team at PIKK-Systems are working on final testing and integration of the IXT SIM, making it ready for launch. With access to multiple networks across countries and remote SIM management, the solution allows the team to prepare for distribution without having to manage different SIMs per market.
“IXT’s offer is quite flexible. That matters when you’re planning a product that needs to work out of the box, no matter where it ends up.”
Peace of mind – for users and families
The device brings safety not only to the people who have it installed in their homes, but also to their next of kin. Creating a trustworthy system that gives peace of mind.
For Feige it’s not just a product, it’s personal. He himself is caring for elderly parents.
"You realise how important these systems are when you experience the challenges up close. Developing these kinds of products are satisfying on many levels in that regards, and we are now ready to launch this next generation so that even more people can experience the safety of this smart sensor."
